Hemming Instructions

Hems

Hems should be sewn so that the crease in the pants falls smoothly, with no 'break' or wrinkles. In other words, the hem should just brush the top of the shoe:

.

If a horizontal hem which is short enough for no 'break' causes the socks to be visible above the shoe at the back, angle the hem down at the back enough to cover the socks:

Your marching pants will be given to you already pinned: please hem them at this length.

DO NOT CUT ANY FABRIC! Please hand sew the hems - do not use a machine stitch.

Put safety pins in the shoulder straps so that they do not slip during the season.

If you do not feel comfortable that you can hem as instructed, you can have one of the sewing volunteers do the sewing for your for a nominal fee of $10 - the money will go to the Band.
